ELECTROPOLISHING & PASSIVATION
ELECTROPOLISHING is the process of polishing any metal in a special electrochemical solution. The base metal is the anode and upon application of electrical current, metal ions are removed from the part. In addition to improved appearance, the process can be used for removal of burrs produced during machining. The process results in improved corrosion resistance and reduction of stress accumulation points by removing sharp edges and smoothing the machining ridges.
PASSIVATION is the process of dissolving free iron from the surface of stainless steel resulting in a passive coating resistant to corrosion
